PENARTH businesses are being encouraged to invite local politicians to their places of work as part of Wales Tourism Week.

It is hoped that inviting local Town Councillors, Vale Councillors and Assembly Members will help them understand the benefits a healthy tourism economy for the area.

A spokesman from the Penarth Tourism and Visitor Association, which is encouraging businesses to let it know how the initiative goes, said: “The idea is that you invite one or more of those you may know, to join you in your business for an hour or so, so that they may better understand the considerable contribution that the visitor brings to the district.

“You may not think that you actually provide a service to visitors, but please remember that the visitor/tourist recognises no boundaries, and you may not actually know where they are coming from anyway!”

He added: “So between February 22 and March 2, why not extend an invitation to local councillors and Assembly Members to join you in your business, and tell them just how much tourism means to your business as well as the town.

“We are sure that they will be pleased to join you.

“Please let VisitPenarth know how you got on, or better still tell us about your experiences, so that we can edit them into a story for the Tourism Industry in Wales. Just write to info@visitpenarth.com”

The next meeting of the Penarth Tourism and Visitor Association has been fixed for Tuesday, February 25, at 6pm at West House, Stanwell Road.
