THE SULLY Friends of Ty Hafan group recently donated a £5,000 cheque to the children’s hospice after two years of fundraising.

A number of fundraising events were held throughout 2013, including a curry night that raised £226, two quiz nights that raised £764 and £901.91 each, and a ladies evening that raised £910.

Barclays bank also provided match funding of £1,173 which was given directly to Ty Hafan.

Over the last two years the voluntary group has now raised more than £5,600 for the Ty Hafan children's hospice.

A spokeswoman from the Sully Friends of Ty Hafan group said: “At a recent curry evening our former chairwoman Susan Anderson handed over a cheque for £5,000 to Ty Hafan staff member Rebecca Chick in the form of a green balloon.

“The curry evening was a huge success and a sell out with over £500 being raised.

“A big thank you to Chris, Christine, Michelle and Julie for hosting the event at the Sully Constitutional club. A good time was enjoyed by all with curry and quizzes.”

She added: “Our next event is a quiz night with fish and chip supper at Sully Old School Hall on April 5 from 7.30pm. Tickets are £7.50 each and if people would like to order tickets they can call Clare on 02920 530647 or visit our facebook page: www.facebook.com/sullyfriends

“Sully friend's of Ty Hafan have a busy year ahead with several events in the pipeline: another ladies evening, a family summer party, another quiz and a Santa's grotto at Christmas.”

TY HAFAN is asking mums, sisters and aunties to ‘go neon’ for its hugely popular annual Midnight Sleep Walk in Cardiff.

Hundreds of walkers will once again be hitting the streets of Cardiff wearing pyjamas, together with dazzling neon accessories, for the event on Friday, May 16, to raise vital funds for Ty Hafan.

The brightly-coloured theme has been launched as a tribute to life-limited children and young people who bring much happiness and sparkle to the lives of their families.

The six-mile midnight walk will start from the city’s iconic Millennium Stadium, and the event will include entertainment beforehand and free tea and cake for walkers at the end.

Many mums of the children supported by Ty Hafan will be taking part, including Kelly Davies from Ystrad.

Kelly and her partner Damien were devastated when they were told their daughter may not survive her first few days due to a life-threatening condition called central hypoventilation.

The condition means Willow is unable to breathe by herself, and when she was four weeks old, Kelly and Damien were given the option to switch off her ventilator. They refused to give up on their daughter and now, aged two, Willow has beaten all the odds and continues to improve every day.

“She continues to surprise us and is such a little fighter,” said Kelly.

Ty Hafan is offering an early bird registration of £7 per walker until March 26 (£10 per person thereafter) and groups of five will only have to pay £30. Each walker will receive a neon fun pack containing flashing neon headwear and glow jewellery

Jessica Morgan, events officer at Ty Hafan, said: “The Midnight Sleep Walk is a fun-filled event that helps raise money for families with life-limited children. If we have 500 Midnight Sleep Walkers, each raising £100, that’s a fantastic £50,000 to help Ty Hafan. So come along and help us raise plenty of money at this year’s Midnight Sleep Walk.”
