THE FIG Tree in Penarth raised more than £600 for a cat rescue and welfare charity by holding a charity dinner last week.
Safe House for Unwanted Animals (SHUA) is staffed entirely by volunteers, and runs a 24-hour emergency helpline, as well as re-homing approximately 250 cats and kittens every year.
Mike Caplan-Hill and Sandie Guppy, who own The Fig Tree, said that they organised the fundraiser last Wednesday, March 19, as they are keen animal lovers.
“The charity costs about £52,000 per annum to run, as vet bills and feeding costs for so many animals are steep,” said Mike.
“We raised more than six hundred pounds thanks to the generosity of our guests at the charity dinner, and we also have a huge store of cat food, and useful items such as cat baskets to hand over to SHUA.
“We’d like to give a big thanks to everyone who made the evening such as success.”
