STAFF from 1148 (Penarth) Air Cadet Squadron recently visited St James’ Palace by invitation of the Duke of Edinburgh.

They completed their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award last year and attended the presentation ceremony to accept their certificates.

The Gold Award Presentation (GAP) is a celebration and recognition of Flying Officer Emily Kennedy, Pilot Officer Richard Pudney and ex Cadet Warrant Officer Megan Pudney's achievements in completing their Gold DofE programme.

The GAP is a unique event and a fitting culmination to mark the hard work, determination and perseverance required. They worked tirelessly through the five sections of their DofE programme over a number of months to achieve their Gold Award.

Emily, Megan and Richard attended their presentation at the prestigious St James’ Palace where they met the Duke of Edinburgh himself.

Richard said: "It was an amazing, once in a lifetime experience which I will never forget."

They had their certificates presented to them by Welsh TV presenter Gethin Jones who also gave a speech congratulating all the award achievers.

Emily said: "I’ve enjoyed the whole award from learning a new skill to completing my expedition, it’s something I would highly recommend to all those eligible."

They have joined an exclusive club of those who have achieved this tremendous award.
