PENARTH and Cardiff South MP Stephen Doughty met the Prime Minister and High Commissioner of Lesotho in Parliament this week, where he highlighted the fantastic work done by the Penarth and District Lesotho Trust (PADLT).
The Prime Minister Tom Thabane was in Westminster on Tuesday, April 8, to meet Members of Parliament and friends of Lesotho.
Stephen attended in his capacity as Patron of PADLT, which for the past 10 years has been organising group visits to Lesotho for people of all ages from Penarth and the surrounding area.
Links have been built between local schools, churches and communities, and fundraising – backed by many people in Penarth – has helped support projects, provide essential supplies, and contribute towards building work, particularly at the Teyateyaneng (TY) Junior Academy.
Stephen will be joining PADLT members on a trip to Lesotho in August.
“It was an honour to meet the Prime Minister Tom Thabane, and the High Commissioner Mrs Makeka in Parliament, and tell them about the work of PADLT,” said Stephen.
“The round-table event was a great success, and a real opportunity for meaningful discussion of the varied issues affecting Lesotho.
“People in Penarth and the local area have been hugely supportive of the work of PADLT over recent years, and I am very much looking forward to visiting Lesotho in the summer, to see how that support has been turned into action.
“Wales has a strong history of links with Lesotho, and I am very proud that Penarth residents and many young people locally are continuing to build those relations.”
