PENARTH residents have been urged to empty their wardrobes and swap unwanted clothes to help raise money for charity.

The Save the Children charity will be holding a 'fashion swish' at Penarth Conservative Club on Thursday, May 8.

The theme of the evening will be swapping good quality clothes that can add new life to your wardrobe.

The Penarth fundraising branch for Save the Children was set up in 2005 following the Indian Ocean tsunami of December 2004. Founding member, Caroline Williams was moved to action after seeing the extent of devastation left by the wave that struck Asia.

Emma Berry is one of the present fundraisers, who along with Caroline Williams, is hard at work organising their latest event on May 8.

“We decided that we wanted to organise a Swishing event as we all enjoy shopping and getting together with our friends," she said.

"This event is all about socialising, trying on fun clothes and improving your range of outfits. As well as frocks; we welcome good quality tops, trousers, dresses, accessories and jewellery."

She added: "The beauty of a Swishing event is that it is a fun way to recycle your wardrobe at minimal cost. The clothes that have lost their appeal in your wardrobe could be a treasure in someone else’s. We want this event to be both fashionable and special. Ladies attending the event can also enjoy a glass of champagne and canapés and be pampered with a range of beauty treatments. We are also planning to hold an auction of “best frocks” for those special occasions and a raffle with some beautiful prizes."

S4C weather presenter and Prynhawn Da presenter Yvonne Evans will open the event and is also bringing a few treasures of her own to swap at the event. BBC news presenter Lucy Owen has also donated a Vivienne Westwood skirt for the fashion event.

"Come along people of Cardiff and the Vale, have a look in your wardrobes and bring all your lovely clothes along to us," added Emma.

"I think this will be a fun and fashionable evening for everybody.”

Doors open at 7pm – 10pm.

Tickets cost £10 and this entitles you to swap up to three items of clothing.
