A PENARTH amateur triathlete has used pedal power to raise more than £1,000 for charity.
Stuart Gillies cycled a total of 111km on a static bike outside Penarth’s British Red Cross charity shop last Saturday, May 10.
Despite battling gale force winds throughout the charity cycling challenge Stuart said he enjoyed the ride.
“It was a fantastic day with great support from all, and I'm over the moon with the results,” he said.
The charity shop also raised money for Red Cross Week by holding a week long raffle, with 25 local businesses donating prizes and vouchers.
Gemma Sawyer, manager of Penarth's British Red Cross shop, added: "I’m so pleased we managed to go over our target of £500 and raise £1,138 for Red Cross Week 2014.
“Thank you to all the local business that supported us, all the volunteers that helped make this possible and our customers for their constant support.”
