TWO DINAS Powys fundraisers are set to take part in the cancer charity Tenovus’s Goodnight Walk through Cardiff this weekend.

Sammy Vowles and Theresa Holmes will both be walking the 10-mile route around Cardiff on Saturday, May 17.

Theresa Holmes, who has battled breast cancer twice, said that she wouldn’t have been able to cope without the support of the charity.

“I have had breast cancer twice, once in 2003, where I had a lumpectomy, chemo, radical radiation, then again in 2007 when I had two more lumps on the same side, where I had a radical mastectomy, followed by tablets for five years. Last November I finished my tablets and I maintain regular visits to Llandough Breast Centre.”

She added: “I was 39 at the time of the first occurrence - with a three-year-old son, and without the support of many cancer charities and the wonderful staff at NHS hospitals - I don’t know how I would have managed.

“I always try to raise money for a cancer charity every year; I am very grateful for all the work that everyone does.”

Sammy Vowles, who is in the Tenovus Sing with us Cardiff and Sing with us Barry choirs, added:

“I’m walking for members of my family that have lost their fight to cancer, especially Zena and Maureen.”

Last year’s walkers raised more than £40,000 for Tenovus, Wales’ leading cancer charity. This year walkers, who can sign up on the night, can choose from the five or 10 mile routes around the Welsh capital, with lots of entertainment provided along the route.

The Tenovus Goodnight Walk takes place on Saturday, May 17, starting from Cardiff City Stadium. Registration is £12 with a discounted rate for groups of four walkers. You can enter individually or as part of a team at tenovus.org.uk or by calling 029 2076 8860.

You can also register on the night from 8pm.
