ON Sunday, June 22, two young people and three adults were confirmed at All Saints Church, Victoria Square, in a moving All Age service attended by over 160 people.

Bishop David Wilbourne, Assistant Bishop of Llandaff, confirmed Paul Evans, Peter and Sandra Chapman, Toby Jones and Rhydian Thomas as full members of the church. Peter was also baptised as part of the service.

The musical elements of worship were as usual varied and uplifting - the choir sang Rutter’s anthem ‘The Lord Bless You and Keep You’, the ensemble accompanied several hymns including ‘Thine be the Glory’ and ‘As the Deer’, and the Worship team led contemporary worship songs such as ‘Holy Spirit Living Breath of God’ and the action song ‘Blessed be the name of the Lord’.

During communion Nigel Lloyd-Latham and Vickie Porteus played Nigel’s original composition ‘Meditation no. 2 for violin and piano’, and organist James Bull finished with a rousing voluntary, ‘Litanies’ by Jehan Alain.

Four members of the youth group shared the reading from St Paul’s letter to the Romans, and Rev Dr Mark Dimond, who recently took up his new post as Chaplain to the Archbishop of Wales, read the Gospel.

Bishop David’s address had a theme of railway journeys, including references to the much-loved film The Railway Children, making the point that confirmation is a ‘free ticket to heaven’. The Bishop also expressed his pleasure at being part of such a joyful service with so many people contributing to the worship.

The Parish of Penarth All Saints would like to thank Bishop David for conducting the service, and to wish the five confirmed members every blessing in taking this important step in their lives.
