POLICE have identified a cyclist that was left in a serious condition after being involved in an accident in Penarth.

They are now appealing for witnesses to come forward that may have seen the accident on Wednesday evening, July 16.

Police had appealed for help to identify the man after he was thrown from his bike at the junction of St Augustine’s Crescent and St Augustine’s Road at 5.37pm.

The cyclist, who is from the Cardiff area, was found with no identification on him and was unable to help police with their enquiries.

He is currently receiving treatment at University Hospital Wales and police are in the process of informing his next of kin.

He was initially described by police as white, approximately 25 to 30 years of age, 6’ tall, of slim build with short brown curly hair.

He was unshaven with a short moustache.

He also had a sizeable scab on his left elbow which appeared to be fairly recent.

He was wearing a Muddy Fox cycling top with the letters ‘MFX’ on the bottom, which was black in colour with grey and red on the sides, Nike running shorts, which were navy in colour with white on the sides, and Nike running trainers that were black in colour.

He was also wearing a Trax brand cycling helmet, which was grey and black in colour, and the bike was described as a Globe brand hybrid pedal cycle that was old and battered and looking silver in colour.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to the accident, which occurred on St Augustine’s Road on Wednesday, July 16, at 5.37pm, to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 1400256228.
