A SERVICE marking the centenary of the start of the First World War is set to be held in Sully this weekend.

The Sully and Lavernock Community Council, in conjunction with Rev Jon Ormrod, is holding a Service at 3pm on Sunday, August 3, at St John the Baptist Church on South Road to commemorate the centenary of the start of the First World War on August 4, 1914.

The residents of Sully who died in the Great War will be remembered, especially together with the service personnel from all nationalities who also lost their lives in this conflict.

The service will be a mixture of hymns, prayers and readings appropriate to WWI. A young resident of Sully will also light a candle in memory of each or the residents who went off to fight and laid down their life.

All our welcome to attend and refreshments will be served in the Old School Hall next to the Church after the service where the winning medal designed by a child from Sully Junior School can be viewed.
