AN ASTHMA sufferer from Penarth is set to cycle 100 miles around London in a bid to raise awareness about how the debilitating breathing condition can be managed with the right care.

Former Pen-y-Garth pupil Osian Lewis has taken on the challenge of riding 100 miles through London and the Surrey hills to raise money for the Asthma UK charity.

Osian, 25, who has suffered with asthma throughout his life, will take to the roads of South East Englandnext month to follow the 100 mile route used in the 2012 Olympic Road Race.

“I made it my number one goal during my time in school to avoid PE lessons at all costs," he said.

"My asthma has always made exercise difficult and I have always disliked doing it, but getting on my bike this summer has actually proved to me that when managed correctly, asthma doesn’t have to get in the way and I can still enjoy sports and push myself without worrying about my asthma."

He added: “Riding 100 miles will be a big achievement for me and hopefully it’ll also raise a healthy sum of money for Asthma UK while also encouraging other asthma sufferers to push themselves and enjoy sports.”

The Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 will take place on Sunday, August 10.

Osian is hoping to raise £700 for Asthma UK and you can donate to his campaign by visiting http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/oodl
