A WOODEN electricity pole that was on fire caused traffic diversions in Sully earlier this morning.
Police, the fire service and Western Power all attended the incident on South Road that was first reported at around 9am this morning.
The fire service evacuated homes in the area at 9.30am and closed the main road and pedestrian walkway, while the police assisted with traffic control.
Police diverted traffic at the Lavernock Road end and closed the roundabout at the bottom of South Road, as South Road was closed in both directions with traffic backing up to Penarth.
Western Power were in attendance to the pole which had fallen on to the pavement and made the area safe.
Swanbridge Road, Beach Road, Cog Road, Sully Moors Road and Hayes Road were all affected by traffic.
Cardiff Bus tweeted earlier this morning: “Due to South Road in Sully being closed due to a fallen electric cable the 94/86 service are being diverted via Lavernock, Swanbridge and Cog Road.”
Western Power said at 10.26am that their work may take around an hour to complete.
The road was reopened at around 12pm.
