THE Head Boy and Girl of St Cyres School were invited by the Royal Navy to join one of their ships as they escorted the warship HMS Duncan into Cardiff for the recent NATO conference.

The gesture was made as a thank you for the work they did for the "Wales at War" project during their summer term.

The team joined the crew of HMS Biter on the first day of the new school term as it sailed out into the Bristol Channel to meet the Duncan as it manoeuvred its way into Cardiff Bay.

On board, the year 13 students were able to experience naval life first hand, and learned of the many opportunities for undergraduates to gain worthwhile skills with the Royal Navy whilst at university.

The morning gave the team a memorable start to the academic year, and they are very grateful to the Royal Navy for their hospitality and for giving them such a marvellous opportunity to experience naval operations at first hand.
