THE swimming pool at Penarth Leisure Centre is set to reopen this weekend - eight months after it was closed due to fire damage.

Refurbishments and necessary repairs have been carried out, and the pool is set to reopen to the public on Saturday, October 25.

The swimming pool has been closed since a fire started in the sauna of the health suite and caused "extensive damage" to the leisure centre.

Work on rebuilding the Heath Suite is due to commence shortly, with this section hopefully being completed within the year.

Cllr Gwyn John, Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, said: “This is very good news for Penarth. It’s taken some time, but having such a well-loved facility back in use will be greatly appreciated by everyone in the area.”
