TWO FORMER Penarth schoolboys have successfully argued their way through to the quarter-finals of a debating competition.

Jordan Stavrakis and Dafydd Foster-Davies, who grew up attending Ysgol Pen y Garth in Penarth, were crowned the winners of the Vale of Glamorgan, Bridgend and Rhondda Cynon Taff round of the Welsh Schools Debating Competition.

Year 12 Ysgol Bro Morgannwg pupils Jordan and Dafydd had previously enjoyed success against Atlantic College, Cowbridge and other schools in the previous round.

The pair beat St John Baptist School in an unseen debate titled 'This house believes that schools should actively promote a vegetarian diet'.

They will now compete in the Welsh quarter-final at Coleg Powys on the November 18.
