ST CYRES School has been boosted by the education watchdog Estyn deciding that the school no longer requires monitoring.

The Wales school inspection organisation stated in a letter to the school that owing to the excellent examination results at all levels in August it no longer requires monitoring.

It comes after the school moved into it's new state of the art building at Sully Road as part of the Penarth Learning Community development.

Head teacher Dr Jonathan Hicks welcomed the news.

“We are all delighted that the school is deemed to have met all six recommendations of the 2013 inspection report," he said.

"We are now able to focus on sustaining a culture of continuous improvement amongst pupils and staff and are already confident of more record-breaking public examination results next summer. This improvement is due to the dedication and hard work of my staff and their dedication to the progress of the pupils in the school.”

St Cyres opens its doors to pupils on Thursday, November 6, when Years 11 and 13 will be the first year groups to experience the superb new facilities. On Monday, November 10, all other year groups will enter the new building. Over the next few weeks every single pupil will receive an iPad in order to make full use of modern technology to aid their learning.

Dr Hicks added: “The use of this technology will ensure that out of date text books are a thing of the past. From now on pupils at St Cyres will have instant access to up to date resources as well as a huge range of exciting learning materials that my staff have been developing for over a year in preparation for our move to the new building.”
