STAFF from a Penarth estate agents have rallied around to show their support for a colleague that has battled breast cancer by wearing pink to work.

Staff from ACJ estate agents and lettings helped raise more than £550 for the breast cancer campaign by taking part in the ‘wear it pink’ fundraising event last Friday, October 24.

Alison Hajilambi, who has worked at the estate agents on Victoria Road for more than 10 years, was diagnosed with breast cancer in September last year.

Since then she has undergone chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a lumpectomy, and has now been welcomed back to work.

“When I was going through diagnosis colleagues and friends felt helpless, but this is their way of contributing and helping now,” she said.

“It’s really lovely and humbling that everyone is doing their bit.”

As well as everyone being sponsored £2 to wear something pink and making donations themselves, staff from neighbouring hairdressers Boys to Men and Backstage Hair also contributed £1 from every haircut.

The fundraising event comes as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with all the money going towards research and treatment for breast cancer.

Alison’s husband Barry, who owns Boys to Men, is also set to take part in a Brecon Beacons 24 hour trek in aid of breast cancer awareness next year.

Mom-of-one Alison, 38, added: “I was really shocked when I got diagnosed as there was no family history of breast cancer.

“Everyone at the breast cancer centre in Llandough has been brilliant, and as a company everyone here has been really supportive too. “
