LOCAL people are being asked to put themselves forward to represent the town as part of a Penarth Town Council effort to include the community in decision making.

Residents have been asked to nominate themselves ahead of a public vote at a meeting in December. To apply residents will have to fill in a form available from the Town Council’s website.

A community group to help make decisions about the town, called a Momentum Group, was suggested by the Town Council in its recently released Penarth Town Place Plan. A meeting of residents called in October after the launch of the document resolved that an interim group should be given the job of deciding how the Momentum Group should be organised and constituted. It is for this Interim Momentum Group the Town Council are now seeking members.

Residents and the council agreed that it should comprise no more than 12 members of the public, with space for representatives from the Town and Vale Councils.

Leader of Penarth Town Council, Cllr Michael Cuddy ,said: “This is a new way of working for us, but this kind of group has been successful in England in taking forward local plans. We’re committed to fully involving local people in making the Plan happen.”
