PENARTH and Cardiff South MP Stephen Doughty has said he is "deeply concerned" by claims that an individual from Cardiff had been involved in a mass execution in Syria.

Labour MP Mr Doughty, speaking on Monday (November 17), said: “I have asked the Minister for Counter Terrorism and Security about these claims today in the House of Commons and asked for an urgent investigation. It is my understanding that details have also been passed to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

“My thoughts are with the victims of these despicable and abhorrent acts, whoever has committed them. The perpetrators should face the full force of international and British law and be brought to justice."

He added: “Cardiff has a proudly, diverse, historical and peaceful Islamic community. Muslim leaders and community representatives from across the city have repeatedly joined together in condemnation of ISIL, extremism and those who would seek to exploit our young people, including in a major joint statement a few months ago. We will continue to stand together in condemnation of these heinous acts.

“I am proud of the people from across the community - including young people working with Movement for Change and many other efforts - who are standing up against extremists and their siren ideologies.”
