A VERY special exhibition will be held at the Penarth Pier Pavilion on Friday, November 28 as children supported by LATCH Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity, exhibit their own incredible works of art that they created during their stay at the Children’s Hospital for Wales.

Children, who are receiving treatment for cancer and leukaemia, have created over 80 brilliant paintings to put on display.

The art project, which is overseen by retired head teacher Brian Warrilow, has been the highlight of the week for many children at Sky Ward.

Brian Warrilow, art project leader for LATCH says: “We’re all enormously looking forward to the exhibition and we’re hoping for a really good turn out so that plenty of people can see the fantastic art the children have created. It has been a lot of fun and the children have worked really hard. We’ve had to keep the sessions to Thursday mornings only to fit in around the children’s cancer and leukaemia treatments, but there has been so much enthusiasm at all the art sessions, they’ve been getting up bright and early every Thursday to get these art works finished. They’ve produced some amazing pieces and we’re looking forward to sharing them with others.”

All money raised from sales of the art during the exhibition will go to LATCH.

LATCH supports the children and their families who are being treated by the Oncology Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Wales. By providing on-site family accommodation, social work services, financial support through grants and practical and emotional support for parents, brothers and sisters at a time when everyday life is turned upside down for the whole family.

Nicola Irwin, Mum of Nia who created one of the art works for the exhibition says: “Nia really enjoyed making her art work and I’m really proud that it’s being shown at Penarth Pier Pavilion. Nia looked forward to the art sessions every week and was always very keen to get her paint brush out and start with the colours. We love the Butterfly painting that she made.”

The exhibition is open between 6pm and 8pm and is completely free to enter.
