THE first ever Oxfam Penarth vinyl record promotion has hit the £1,000 mark in just two weeks.

The record sale, which included over 110 collectable LP's and singles, has been hugely popular with local customers.

Records, that have been collected since the summer, have been for sale ranging in price from £4.99 to £200, covering all types of genres from rock and pop to folk, blues and jazz.

A wide range of LP's are still available, including from the likes of the Bay City Rollers and The Christians

Vinyl continues to be more and more popular among young and older people, with national publicity last week stating that it had been the best year for vinyl sales since 1996 and local Penarth customers are following that trend.

Jayne Luxton, the Penarth Oxfam manager, said, "It has been a great two weeks with some of our best ever music sales figures. We would like to thank everyone who has donated their unwanted vinyl. We would love to have more donations of any type of vinyl with donors being assured that we will obtain the best possible prices for any vinyl records that come into the shop. We hope to do similar promotions in the future including a classical vinyl promotion too."

She added: "We have sold so many vinyl records we could do with a few more volunteers."

Customers who would like to donate their vinyl can bring it into the Oxfam shop at 8/8A Windsor Street, Penarth. Arrangements can be made for large collections to be picked up by ringing 02920 706358.
