A FUNDRAISING dinner in Penarth in aid of a charity that aims to tackle blood cancer has raised more than £2,500.

Linda Hurst, from the Cardiff Branch of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, organised the fundraising dinner at Hamptons in Penarth on Saturday, November 15.

Guests enjoyed a three course meal with fabulous entertainment from singing duo Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, raising a total of £2,565 in the process.

“In June 2010 I was given the devastating news that I had Acute Myeloid Leukaemia,” said Linda.

“This is a particularly aggressive form of the disease and we knew that the road ahead was going to be a rocky one. However, through the total devotion and care of the doctors and nurses at UHW in Cardiff, and the total love and devotion of my family, I received the best possible treatment, and am now so very happy to say that I have been in remission for nearly four and a half years.”

She added: “I joined the Cardiff Branch of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research as I wanted to help raise as much money as possible to fund research into all types of blood cancers. This event was fantastic and I’m so pleased we raised so much money.”

Rachael Davies, regional manager for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research in Wales, said: “Linda and all of the members of the Cardiff Branch of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research are so dedicated to raising money to help beat blood cancer. They have all been affected by blood cancer in some form and are now working tirelessly to raise awareness and funds to support our work. Volunteers like Linda are so important to us and we really appreciate the time and effort put in to raise money for us. We’ve been working to beat blood cancer for over 50 years and we won’t stop until we do.”
