LLANDOUGH Primary School has been highly commended in the 21st Understanding Disability Awards.

The school, which recently achieved 'good' in every section of its Estyn inspection, won the award in the school/college category.

Ceri Hill nominated the school for the award following the "amazing work of the staff and subsequent successful integration" of her daughter Mair.

She said: "Mair is seven years old and suffers from Landau Kleffner Syndrome and a Global Developmental Delay and Learning Disability.

"She has attended the Speech and Language Resource Base at Llandough Primary for the last three years and the support and dedication of the staff there has changed our lives.

"Mair is incredibly happy there and the school’s constant commitment to integrating children from the resource base into mainstream activities means that they are able to join in with activities such as concerts and school trips regardless of their disabilities."

She added: "I think the staff at the school really deserve some recognition for the work that they do."

The awards, hosted by The Cardiff & the Vale Parents Federation, took place at the Future Inn Hotel in Cardiff Bay on Tuesday, November 18.
