THE NEW Ysgol y Deri special school has been officially named by the Vale council.
The school, which recently opened as part of the £48million Penarth Learning Community project, had its name officially rubber-stamped to complete the legal process during a cabinet meeting on Monday (December 15).
As part of the agreement the governing body has been officially approved.
The 17-person governing body is made up of five parent governors, four LEA governors, two teacher governors, one staff governor, four community governors, and one head teacher.
The only change to the ‘instrument of government’, which outlines the makeup of the governing body, was that the role of head teacher should not be gender specific.
During the meeting councillor Chris Elmore, cabinet member for children’s services, said that the wording should be changed in case a woman became head teacher in future.
He said that the wording should be changed from “he” to “they” as it should not be gender specific.
