THE owners of Hamptons in Penarth have thanked customers for their support after donating more than £3,000 to an animal rescue charity.

Andy Bradshaw and Peter Knowles of Hamptons Penarth made the donation to the Many Tears Animal Rescue Centre in West Wales, after raising the money through proceeds from the 5p charge for their carrier bags and customers donations.

Peter Knowles, from the boutique shop based on Ludlow Lane, said the charity was very close to their hearts.

"Our current three Westies; Millie, Georgie and Daisy - and our previous Westie Roxy - have all come to us from this wonderful centre," he said.

"The total raised by Hamptons customers to date is £3,850, which is enough to rescue and re-home more than 20 abandoned or unwanted dogs - thank you all very much!"

He added: "The centre mainly takes in ex-breeding dogs and last day at the pound dogs. They neuter, worm, microchip and inoculate all the dogs and with the help of fosterers across the UK they socialise, train and love them until forever homes are found. Together with the fantastic support from our customers we’re delighted to help.”

Andy Bradshaw added that after thinking long and hard they had now chosen the charity to benefit from their recently opened second retail outlet, Shore, on Penarth's Esplanade.

"The recipient charity for the 5p carrier bag charge at Shore will be the The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales, who raise funds for seals and seabirds on Skomer Island Pembrokeshire, fitting in very nicely with our own coastal theme," he said.

"We've collected £34 in the 5p carrier bag charges since opening, and are thrilled to have sent this recently as our first donation to the Wildlife Trust.

"Thank you so much to all of our wonderful customers who never cease to amaze us with their generosity and kindness, they really do make such a difference to these charities"
