PENARTH’S only nightclub has closed down.
A public notice has been put up on the entrance to Eclipse nightclub saying that the club had officially closed, but that a new nightclub would be coming soon.
The Windsor Road-based club, formerly known as Tels, has been a main-stay in the town centre for many years. It enjoyed late opening hours on the weekends, and had become popular for a range of charity events.
Vagrant Gary Cooper, who was described as Penarth’s ‘adopted drunk’ when he died in June last year, was well-known for sleeping in the doorway to the nightclub.
The public notice says that a new nightclub will be coming “in the next few weeks” and that a website would be launched “prior to the opening where we will give you all the latest updates”.
It added: “We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
“We look forward to seeing you soon.”
The notice is signed off with the website www.club220.com, which is currently blank apart from saying “coming soon”.
