AN AWARD-WINNING garden designer from Penarth is aiming for her medal hat-trick at the first of the Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) outside shows, RHS Flower Show Cardiff (April 17-19).

Victoria Wade, 27, won a gold medal in 2013 and a silver gilt medal in 2014 and is determined to continue her winning streak with her take on an edible kitchen garden at this year’s show.

The quirky design was created for those who are short on space but keen to maximise their garden area for growing food and alfresco dining.

Victoria’s garden is one of three Show Gardens centred on the idea of ‘Simple Spaces; Amazing Places’, demonstrating how even the smallest garden can be transformed into an inspiring, practical and easily maintainable living space.

Victoria has been preparing for the show since November, growing plants and designing the space but perhaps most importantly, raising the chickens that will form an integral part of her Show Garden.

Victoria specialises in the design, construction and maintenance of contemporary, ecological gardens and established Victoria Wade Landscapes in Penarth in early 2013.

She said: “I often speak to people who have great ambitions for their gardens but are convinced that they have too little space. I hope that my design will show people that they don’t need to be constrained by size they just need a little imagination.

“My garden design will truly embrace the concept of outdoor living with a kitchen and bar area, a wood fired pizza oven, a fire pit for BBQs and fruit trees and herbs for people to use in their cooking.”

After being inundated with questions about the garden at last year’s show, Victoria has created a blog on her website (www.victoriawade.co.uk/blog) to explain her ideas behind the garden, share her progress during the build up to the show and give people advice, ideas and inspiration.

Victoria’s Alfresco garden will be one of the inspiring Show Gardens on display alongside Shani Lawrence’s Nurture in Nature garden and Robert Hughes’ ‘Office Box’ garden.
