THE Civil Aid Voluntary Rescue Association (CAVRA), based in Sully, has received funding of £3220 from The UK SAR Volunteer Training Fund.

This funding will allow for existing team members to refresh their Swift Water Rescue Technician certificates, as well as training for a number of new members to gain this qualification.

Additionally, it will help them to attain the “B” type DEFRA qualification. (CAVRA is currently a “C” type team, which is a seven man team with a non-powered boat, whereas a “B” type team is a seven man team with a powered boat).

CAVRA is part of the DEFRA National Asset Register, and is also part of an All-Wales Flood Rescue response.

CAVRA is also updating and expanding its training in First Aid, with refresher training for some and additional skills for others including use of defibrillators and medical gases.

All members of CAVRA are volunteers who live and work in the community and are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to provide assistance during adverse weather conditions such as storms, flood, snow, drought, etc, as well as a range of civil contingencies and assisting in searches for missing persons.

CAVRA also provides support and assistance at a number of events throughout the year to raise funds to cover its ongoing costs such as insurance, fuel, etc, and relies totally on charitable donations from members of the public, local businesses and other organisations.
