THE Vale Council’s Sports Development team is offering a free Keeping Safe in Sport workshop to young people aged 13 to 17 who volunteer at a sports club in the Vale.

The workshop will take place on Thursday, March 26 from 6pm to 8pm at the Civic Offices in Barry and will teach volunteers to be able to identify and recognise good practice for keeping children safe and support safe sports sessions for children.

The course is free to individuals from clubs who work in partnership with the Sports Development Team, or £25 each for other individuals.

The team are also offering a "Creating a Positive Coaching Environment to Encourage Better Behaviour" workshop, aimed at coaches who work with young people in a school or club environment.

Coaches will discover how people’s behaviour impacts upon others, how to create a positive coaching environment, and understand and apply strategies to deal with challenging behaviour.

The course runs on Tuesday, March 24 from 6pm to 9pm at the Civic Offices, Barry.

Spaces are limited on each of the courses. To book a place, or for more information, contact Julia Sky on 01446 704793 or email Jsky@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk.

These workshops are being delivered as part of the Vale Council’s Creating Confident Coaches project which forms part of the Vale Sport plan.
