A WELSH-SPEAKING playgroup in Penarth is appealing for volunteers to help renovate its outdoor space.

Cylch Meithrin Bethel, based on Plassey Street, has been fundraising to help pay for the work to improve the facilities on offer to children.

The nursery recently raised nearly £300 by holding a fun-filled Easter egg hunt with children, parents and grand-parents.

The £290.60 raised will go towards improving the outside space of the Welsh nursery, so that the children can enjoy outdoor as well as indoor activities.

Playgroup leader Jan Morgan said she would like to thank all those who turned up on the day and pledged to help with the renovation work.

"Special thanks must go to Catrin Awoyemi, who organised the event, and Tesco Penarth who donated the Easter eggs - diolch yn fawr iawn," she said.

The nursery is now hoping that with the support of parents and local businesses they can breathe new life into the building.

"Every year we set out to get this work done, only to find the funds are then needed elsewhere but, fingers crossed, this year could by our time," said Jan.

"Andrea Williams, whose child Alex recently attended Cylch, has been instrumental in organising a donation from Ian Hendra, the manager of Wickes on Penarth Road, for the work to be completed.

"We would like to say a big thank you to both Andrea and Ian for their support, which is much appreciated.

"Tesco in Penarth have also given us a large donation towards our funding for this project and a huge thank you to them also.

"We wonder whether there are any other local businesses or tradespeople willing to support this very worthy cause of ours and if so would you kindly get in touch on 07790055352

"With so many eager parents/grandparents and staff on board we might actually reach our goal this year!"
