PENARTH singing sensation Jodi Bird has capped off a whirlwind few months by being crowned "Welsh Musical Theatre Young Singer of the Year".

After wowing the Britain's Got Talent judges last year Jodi has continued her rise to stardom and gained plaudits around the world.

Ysgol Bro Morgannwg pupil Jodi, 17, recently hit the headlines after she translated into Welsh the popular Disney song ‘Let it go’ from the film Frozen.

The translation, which had to be approved by Disney themselves, was broadcast live on TV and was also used later that month for the New Year's Eve celebration programmes on S4C, where she was the first person ever to sing this in Welsh live on TV.

Soon after the TV appearance Jodi travelled to North Wales to appear with Rhydian Roberts with whom she also sang a duet. The concert was recorded and broadcast on Christmas Eve.

Due to her winning the Musical Theatre category at the Urdd Eistedfordd in Bala just days after her semi-final appearance on Britain’s Got Talent, she was asked to represent Wales at the St David’s Day celebrations in Disneyland Paris.

Jodi travelled out there in March this year where she sang her translation of ‘Let it Go’ in Disney.

Once again she is the first person in the world to ever to do this, while she also took part in the Disney Parade where she rode along with Mickey and Minnie.

Jodi also regularly performs for The Welsh Hearts Foundation charity, for whom she has made several appearances across Wales including the Cardiff City Hall where she appeared alongside John Owen Jones.

This laudable charity is raising funds to deploy, and train people in the use of defibrillators right across Wales.

Just after returning from Paris Jodi was overjoyed to learn that she was successful with her audition with the Orbit theatre group for the lead role in the Wizard of Oz and will be appearing as Dorothy in the New Theatre from Wednesday, May 27, until Sunday, May 31.

If that wasn’t enough to think about, especially with upcoming educational exams to contend with, Jodi has again been successful with another audition, this time to play the part of Eponine in a Welsh production of “Les Miserables” in the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff Bay from Thursday, October 29, until Sunday, August 31.

On Saturday, April 11, Jodi travelled to the Taliesin Theatre in Swansea to appear as a finalist in the “Welsh Musical Theatre Young Singer of the Year”, a competition in it’s 13th year, arranged by the Dunvant Choir and sponsored by the Principality Building Society.

Despite strong competition from singers far older than herself Jodi stole the show and was awarded a handsome cheque and was completely taken by surprise when she was offered the opportunity to take an all expenses paid visit to Australia to sing at three separate events in Sydney.

She is currently presenting on TV and has a full calendar for 2015
