Extracts from the Penarth Times of April 15, 1965:

The small swimming baths at the Penarth Baths opened on Wednesday.

After hearing a plea by a student of Woodland Place, Penarth, that students over 16, but still attending college should not be liable for the recent increase in Baths' charges, Penarth Council, at Monday's meeting, decided that the special rate for young people of school age should apply to people living in Penarth, even if they are educated outside the area.

The Council is to consider the possibility of purchasing a yard in Windsor Terrace Lane as a Transit Depot for holding old vehicles pending their disposal for scrap at Barry.

Showing at the Washington for six days, starting Easter Monday (including after bingo on Thursday) is "The Magnificent Showman" starring John Wayne, Claudia Cardinale and Rita Hayworth.

It was a historic evening for the 14th Penarth Cub Pack and all Penarth Cubs last Friday.

The Pack night was devoted almost entirely to the presentation of proficiency badges to the Pack.

The presentation of a clock to the Dinas Powis Village School, to commemorate the Jubilee Year of the Women's Institute, will now probably take place in May. This was announced at the monthly meeting.

Penarth Secondary Modern School teacher Mr Draper, a gifted pianist, this week made an appeal for more musical events and concerts to be held in the town.

Bridgend played last Saturday as if they meant to retain the championship, storming to a 26 points to 11 victory over the understrength Penarth 15. The Seasoders had no answer to the home side's determination, although it was Penarth who made the early running.

Penarth Athletic were worn down by Ebbw Vale Athletic on Saturday and the visitors ran out winners by five points. Vale kicked off with a gale-force wind behind them and the ball went straight over the dead ball line.

With the season's fixtures almost completed, Penarth YMCA are already going ahead with their build-up for next season, and trials have been taking place each Wednesday evening at Cwrt-y-Vil.
