THE Beachcliffe development on the Esplanade continues to progress as the hotel nears completion.

The restored Edwardian buildings also contain a restaurant, flats and a swimming pool with thoughts turning to an ice cream parlour as well.

Richard Hayward, who is leading the renovation of the site, said there are just a few things left to install before the nine room hotel is ready.

There has already been a lot of demand to visit the two luxury homes which are set to cost £600,000 each.

Offers are not being taken at this stage despite the high level of interest as decisions are made on what to do with certain spaces.

The hotel rooms are fitted out with state of the art bathroom systems and the same furniture which is used in the Burj Al Arab in Dubai.

The back room is orange whilst the front is blue, both with solid oak doors, televisions and plenty of closet space. The focus was on practicality and only including the things people needed so more attention could be paid to quality and detail.

Speaking about the unique nature of the project as a whole, Mr Hayward said: “I wonder if anything like this will be attempted in the area again. I doubt it.”

The Restaurant James Sommer appears to be flourishing after having finished 30th in the Good Food Guide and on course for a Michelin Star with new menus being introduced.

One of the “best features” is the nook which is located to the right of the development as you face it and has a clear sea view from the bedroom window.

With a bronze finish and conservation roof lights, it will cost between £300,000-£350-000.

The sea views from the front of the building are impressive and are part of the appeal of the revamped buildings on the Esplanade.

Mr Hayward said there were as yet no plans to announce a date for full completion of the entire site.

“People will never realise the amount of detailing that has gone into it.” He said that they could have finished it more quickly but that it would not have been the same level of quality.

“We have had to build it slowly. Some parts have been fraught with difficulty.”

But it appears that they are not far away from being able to open the hotel which will cost around £175 a night. A price which Mr Hayward says is a reasonable one.
