GRIFFIN Books, Penarth's independent bookshop, recently ran an Alice in Wonderland-themed colouring competition as part of the Mad Hatter's Fun Day held at the Kymin.

Proceeds from the day benefitted the Penarth Town Mayor's chosen charities for the year: Llamau and Penarth Live at Home scheme.

The competition winners were Rachael and Catalina (joint first prize in the eight+ age group) and Matthew (first prize in the five-seven age group), who collected their prizes from the shop.

Shop owner Mel Griffin said: "As part of the business community it's important to us to support national good causes as well as local charities."

"As such, after reading about the campaign in the Penarth Times, I'm delighted to be hosting a 'Macmillan Night In' at the shop on Thursday, May 28, between 7 and 9pm.

"Food, soft drinks and lots of fun activities will be provided - bring your own booze! There will be 10 per cent off everything on the night, with a further 10 per cent of total sales donated to Macmillan Cancer Support."
