AN INSPIRATIONAL school business manager has received a national award.

Susan Essen of Evenlode primary school in Penarth won in the 'ancillary staff member' category from 150 entries submitted by parents and colleagues.

The ceremony took place at the Mercure Holland House in Cardiff on Friday, June 19. The Inspirational Teaching Awards saw eleven professionals from schools and colleges across Wales honoured with awards.

The evening was hosted by comedian and broadcaster Chris Corcoran who once taught at Barry Comprehensive school.

Guests were treated to a three course meal and music from 'Choir factor' winners Treorchy comprehensive who sang 'Pompeii' by Bastille, and Nina Simone's 'Feeling Good'.

Evenlode headteacher, Steve Rees collected the award on Susan's behalf.

He said: "‘both Susan and the school are delighted with her award. It demonstrates how highly she is regarded by colleagues and parents and we are very proud of her achievement.

It is fantastic to gain such public recognition for her hard work, loyalty and commitment."
