DINAS Powys Community Council has elected a new chairman.

The annual meeting on Thursday, May 21, saw Councillor Keith Hatton sworn in as the 121st person to take up the role since the council was formed.

He will replace the outgoing chairman Councillor Chris Franks.

Cllr Hatton was born on the banks of the Manchester shipping canal and attended Lymm Grammar school where he gained four A-levels

He joined the BBC in London after leaving school before moving to BBC Wales in Cardiff in 1965.

He has worked in both television and radio where he stage-managed the first two 'Cardiff Singer Of The World' competitions.

Cllr Hatton has worked with various high profile personalities and on big sporting occasions through the years.

In the 1990s he became finance and business manager for the BBC Wales drama unit where he built up knowledge and skills which have benefitted the council in his financial roles.

Cllr Hatton moved to Dinas Powys in 1974 and become a full-blown councillor in 2002.

Since this time he has served in a number of roles with the council as well as becoming a county councillor in 2008.

A council spokesman said: "Despite all his responsibilities he is a family man and has an excellent wife in Carol and is extremely proud of her and their son Mathew, who is a musically gifted young man.

"It gives me tremendous pride to propose that Keith Hatton becomes chairman of Dinas Powys community council for the year 2015-2016."
