SCHOOLCHILDREN in Penarth will be wearing swanky summer hats this week to help raise money for charity.

Swanky Summer Hat Day is part of a campaign by Age Cymru to help end isolation and loneliness among vulnerable older people.

Nia Butler, Age Cymru’s Fundraising Manager said: "We all know what it’s like to feel lonely, but imagine what it must be like to actually be alone and isolated every day - this is, unfortunately a reality for many older people in Wales.

“I’m sure that many staff and pupils know at least one, if not more, older people and would do all they can to help if they knew others like them were lonely.

“It’s simple and fun to get involved. All you have to do is ask all pupils to wear a swanky summer hat on Friday, July 3 and make a donation to Age Cymru.”

Age Cymru can provide Swanky Summer Hat Day posters and information on how to send your donations to the charity.

Organisations can also get involved by holding their very own Summer Sizzler activity, with all funds raised supporting vulnerable older people.

Age Cymru works nationally and locally - through its network of local charity partners, to make Wales a place where older people can flourish.
