VALE of Glamorgan, in connection with the Vale Partnership, hosted 13 visitors from two Texan churches.

The group were busy holding events and working in schools and communities across the Vale during their visit.

The Vale Partnership, which is made up of seven local churches, arranged the visit following a successful trial last year.

Coastlands Family Church Minister Mike Holmes said: "The visit was a huge success. Parts of the team visited four secondary schools and five primary schools in the Vale and were very well received. Comments included, 'The visitors were amazing'; 'The boys, and staff, thoroughly enjoyed all the different presentations' and 'The best assembly we have had all year'."

The other part of the team from Texas worked in Dinas Powys, helping the elderly with gardening, painting and tidying up some of the community.

There were many special events for all age groups during the week with Texan themes and food. One of the highlights was the many feats of strength performed by Marc Minter, bending steel rods and snapping baseball bats in half.

The Vale AM’s intervention was required prior to the visit when the group’s visas were subject to delay, putting the whole trip at risk.

Jane Hutt AM said: "I was very concerned to be told of the difficulties with the visas and was delighted to able to help, and support the wonderful work they have carried out this week.

"I offer my congratulations to the church leaders of the Vale Partnership for their hard work and dedication, prior to and during the visit, ensuring this week was a great success for all.

"I know the Partnership look forward to carrying on their important work and welcoming the team back for years to come."

Mike Holmes said: "This Vale-Texan Partnership is due to continue for 10 years and we look forward to seeing them again next year".
