THE trial of a new speed limit is set to be introduced.

Following requests from residents and community groups, the six month scheme will see a 20mph limit set along Penlan Road in Llandough.

A public consultation on the potential for 20mph zones within the Penarth and Llandough areas took place during March and April 2013.

The results suggested there was a slight majority in support for further investigation of a 20mph speed limit.

During this period, residents will be able to decide whether the scheme is kept on permanently or not.

If successful, the Vale council say they could make further investment into the plan to fund a more long term run.

Works will start during the week commencing Monday, July 27 and will take around one week to complete, allowing the trial speed limit to become operational from Monday, August 3.

It will involve signage and markings being installed as opposed to humps or tabled junctions

Llandough ward Councillor Kate Edmunds said: “I have made improving road safety in Llandough a priority and have lobbied for action to be taken in this area.

I am very happy that this invaluable evidence gathering exercise is being undertaken.

The speed of traffic in Llandough has long been a major concern of residents and I would urge as many of them as possible to feed their comments back to the Council on this initiative.”

Comments and feedback can be given at any time during the trial period beginning on August 3.

All feedback must include ‘Penlan Road’ in the title, and must include a full name and postal address.
