What better way to reward yourself for excellent GCSE results than throwing yourself out of an aeroplane?

Two schoolgirls from Penarth - who achieved an amazing 11 A* grades between them - will be doing just that on Saturday, August 30 to raise funds for charity.

The girls, Lily Winnan and Charlotte Way, both 16 and both pupils at Stanwell, will be skydiving from Swansea airfield in aid of Velindre and Ty Hafan.

Lily, who brought home 8 A*s and four As in her exam results last week explained why they decided to do a skydive.

"We wanted to push ourselves," she said, "And really do something out of our comfort zones.

"We just felt like there's no point doing something for charity if you find it easy to do."

She continued, adding that for her this will be a particularly tough test.

She said: "I'm a bit scared of heights and I'm a bit scared of flying too! I'm a bit nervous about it, more excited at the moment though."

The girls have already raised an incredible £844 for their chosen charities, through sponsorship and also events such as a bake sale at school, and are hoping to increase this amount by the time they make their donation.

"The charities are both really close to our hearts," she said, "We have both had cancer affect our families and Ty Hafan is a local charity - we think what they do is great."
