THE charity behind a specially adapted bus which provides transport to elderly and disabled people who are unable to use public transport has urged Penarth residents to get on board.

VEST transport, which is funded by the Vale of Glamorgan council, makes a trip into Cardiff once a week - giving a day out to people who might otherwise not be able to travel.

In order to keep their funding going and maintain the weekly trip for those already using the invaluable service, VEST transport need as many people to take advantage of the service as possible.

A spokeswoman for the group said: "VEST Transport receives some funding from the Vale of Glamorgan Council to provide transport for those unable to use public transport due to age, disability or isolation.

"Our bus is specially adapted to ensure wheelchair users can come aboard and join our lovely Penarth residents on a trip to Cardiff every week for just £1.50 each way.

"Our friendly driver Alan 'The Smiler' will help them into their homes with their shopping or give them an arm if they've had a tipple with their lunch."
