CARDIFF Bus has announced its Unite union members will be striking for 48 hours from Thursday, October 1 following a workplace ballot.

An improved pay offer by the bus operator has been rejected. A limited bus service will now be in operation from 00:01 hours on Thursday, October 1 until 24:00 hours Friday, October 2.

This latest offer was to increase the pay award to 2.5 per cent for one year and retaining the attendance bonus in its current form.

Cynthia Ogbonna, managing director of Cardiff Bus said: “Following the result of a workplace ballot, Unite union members have unfortunately decided to strike for 48 hours commencing Thursday, October 1.

“We have continued to work tirelessly to reach a positive resolution for all parties involved and are extremely disappointed that this has not been achieved.

“Our latest offer was to increase pay by 0.5 per cent to 2.5 per cent retaining the attendance bonus but regretfully this offer was rejected.

“We advise that customers check our website for full timetable details, social media feeds, call our customer service helpline, as well as listen to local radio stations including Heart FM, Capital FM and BBC Radio Wales Travel for further updates.

“We are extremely apologetic for again inconveniencing our customers, and we will do our best to ensure that we keep Cardiff moving during this time.”
