ANOTHER Penarth pub has been included in the Good Beer Guide as it goes from strength to strength

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA)'s 2016 edition of the well respected guide is the 43rd of its kind and sees the Golden Lion become one of three pubs in the town on the list.

In March, CAMRA selected the Golden Lion as the 2015 Vale of Glamorgan pub of the year.

CAMRA supports well-run pubs as the centres of community life – whether in rural or urban areas – and believes their continued existence plays a critical social role in UK culture.

It also supports the pub as the one place in which to consume real ale.

The entries in the annual Good Beer Guide are judged on the quality of the ale served.

Paul Harper has been the manager of the Golden Lion for eight years. He commented: "We are really happy with how things are going and it keeps getting better. Our sales of real ale are going through the roof. We sell produce from local Welsh breweries which are springing up all the time."

Paul, along with his assistant Craig, hope to continue their success well into the future and their refurbished pub garden saw around 90 people cram into it for the England v Wales rugby World Cup match on Saturday, September 26.

The Golden Lion of Glebe St is one of five John Bassett pubs which pride themselves on being proper local independent pubs.

Paul added: "We want to keep up our high standards. When I started here, I was selling less than 100 ales but now it's 350 plus."
