AN AWARD winning writer and Oxford professor is set to visit the town later this month.

Independent book shop Griffin Books is delighted to be hosting a talk from poet and novelist Patrick McGuinness this November.

Mr McGuiness will be at Waterloo Tea, Stanwell Road on Thursday, November 19 to discuss his memoir 'Other People's Countries', which was the overall winner of the Wales Book of the Year award for 2015.

One critic said of the book: "His prose, like his poetry, is a marvel to behold... This strange and hypnotic memoir confirms McGuinness as one of the finest authors of his generation."

It centres on the small Belgian town of Bouillon where McGuinness spent much of his childhood.

Born in Tunisia, Patrick is also the author of 'The Last Hundred Days' which was longlisted for the 2011 Man Booker prize, shortlisted for the 2011 Costa First Novel Award and won the 2012 Wales Book of the Year Award.

He is a fellow of St Anne's College, Oxford where he lectures in French. Patrick will be delighted to sign copies of 'Other People's Countries' which will be available to ticket-holders at the special price of just £5.

Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start and tickets are now available from the shop at £5 each.

Drinks will be available for purchase on the night, with complimentary snacks kindly provided by Waterloo Tea.
