CHARITABLE youngsters and teachers from a trio of Penarth schools raised hundreds for Children in Need with a range of fun activities.

Richard Hopkin of St Cyres School teamed up with drama teacher Harry Withers, PE teachers Matt Bolton and Robert Glaves and technology tutor Jason Erickson – jointly named Wrong Direction – to make their own festive video for East 17’s 1994 hit Stay Another Day.

Pupils were given the chance to watch the video last Thursday and Friday in exchange for a £1 donation to Children in Need.

Music teacher Mr Hopkin said: “St Cyres School always gets involved in charity events.”

Westbourne School pupils Chloe Tsui, Pond Maneein and Joyce Lee also organised a range of activities, raising an impressive £200 for the annual fundraising drive.

Among them were a table tennis competition on Thursday, November 12, which saw pupils and teachers go head to head, as well as a cake sale and a basketball shoot-off competition on Friday – when youngsters were invited to come to school wearing spots.

A school spokesman said: “Westbourne School are proud of Chloe, Pond and Joyce for raising the money, with more expected to come in, for Children in Need and the whole school for taking part in this worthwhile cause”.

Children at nearby Cogan Nursery School also got into the fundraising spirit, coming in dressed as their favourite superheroes, making Pudsey cakes and having their faces painted and nails decorated.

The school raised £90.82 and youngsters got a surprise when they were greeted by seven Pudsey Bears.

Headteacher Pauline Rowland said: "All children are superheroes at heart and all deserve the very best. By dressing up and carrying out a range of fun activities we have been able to raise money for children who will benefit from extra support.”
