A SCHOOL girl from the Vale has become a young ambassador for a charity which is tackling bullying.

Alivia Smith, 12, attends Stanwell School in Penarth and is now an anti-bullying ambassador for Bullies Out.

She was presented the opportunity through the Glamorgan Voluntary Service which offers information, advice and guidance on all aspects of volunteering.

Alivia said: "It was so easy to do. I decided that I'd like to try and make a difference and be a good role model to others.

"I think I have the right attributes to help and support people. I am a good communicator, kind, caring and thoughtful.

"I will help people to feel safe and to approach me with their worries knowing that everything they say to me is in strictest confidence."

Alivia and her friend Marcy Chivers, who also recently joined the charity, decided to share the knowledge they had received through training with Bullies Out.

Alivia added: "We felt that we would like to highlight the different forms of bulling in the assembly we did for Year 7's just joining Stanwell School.

"We presented the whole year with a power point presentation we put together to help people to understand the different types of bullies and how bullying can make someone feel.

"We focus so much on our differences, and that is creating a lot of chaos and negativity and bullying in the world.

"I think if everybody focused on what we all have in common which is that we all want to be happy."

Opportunities were discussed for other students to became trained ambassadors from the school, as part of the national anti-bullying month in November.

A spokesman for Stanwell said: "Well done to Alivia and Marcy who have worked really hard this term to promote awareness and raise funds for anti-bullying charity Bullies Out.

We are very proud of the girls and all they have achieved."

Jade Wiltshire is the youth development co-ordinator for Bullies Out and has been in regular contact with Alivia.

Ms Wiltshire praised her perseverance and said: "If Alivia wants something she will keep asking until she gets it. She is so determined.

"She has such a passion already. Bullying is not often talked about and is sometimes accepted as a fact of life. We need people like Alivia who will do something."
