CARDIFF Airport has been awarded the Environment Initiative award at the Airport Operators Association Dinner and Awards Ceremony.

Managing director, Debra Barber, collected the award on behalf of the team, which beat Heathrow Airport and Fibresand International.

Cardiff Airport submitted a strong award entry this year based on all of its recent environmental achievements including being named a zero waste to landfill organisation; achieving phase two of the BS 8555:2003 Seren Standard accreditation in recognition of the high standards of their environmental management system and making significant improvements in noise abatement and fuel efficiency in partnership with our local community and airlines.

Judges were looking for the demonstration and successful delivery of an initiative or project that has produced environmental benefits, improvement or mitigation. The winner also needed to demonstrate how work in this area contributed to the airport, aligned with the current environmental policy and added value to the business.
