STANWELL School received a visit from world renowned soprano singer Rebecca Evans.

She visited the school to conduct a masterclass with Year 13 pupil Emma Davies and Year 11 student Tomas McSorley, who are currently tackling the top roles of Eva Peron and Juan Peron for the school production of Evita.

Fresh from her triumphant performance as Angelica in Welsh National Opera’s recent production of Orlando and celebrating 25 years in the business, Ms Evans provided some invaluable pearls of wisdom to Emma and Tomas, who were both thrilled to receive guidance from the world-class star.

Emma said: “It’s a unique, once in a lifetime opportunity and I feel very lucky. I’m sure that Rebecca’s advice will give my performance that extra edge.”

The challenging, sung-through libretto of Evita will be performed entirely by pupils of the school, augmented by a band and crew also exclusively made up of students.

A set has been constructed to reflect the grand facade of the Argentine presidential palace and the show also features salsa dancing and Argentine tango.

Evita will be performed from December 14-17 starting at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £10 and £8 and are available from the school either in person or call 029 20707633.
