OVER £25,000 was raised last year for the local Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

The appeal raised an impressive total of £27,000 in Penarth and surrounding areas in 2015.

He said: "Thanks to the retailers of Penarth for their continuing support and generous contributions.

"We'd also like to thank all the cadets for their good work and to Pizza Pronto for their very generous donation and a very big thank you to Alan and Hazel for their full week of collecting."

The team at Pizza Pronto decorated their kiosk on Stanwell Road in poppies and hosted a pizza for donations cause to raise money for the appeal.

The traditional poppy appeal caravan was also present in the town centre.

Acknowledgement was also given to the small band of volunteers who get involved every year and contributed to the achievement of the grand total.

Special appreciation went David Burnham Smith who was said to have created some "amazing" ceramic poppies for the appeal.

Schools around the town also got involved with the appeal hosting numerous collections throughout the year.

Richard James is the chair of the Penarth branch of the Royal British Legion.

He said: "It is massive to help the new generation of men who are coming home with severe injuries."

He mentioned the legion's new motto "live on" which is designed to encourage the idea that ex-service men live the best life they can.

Mr James added: "We hope the people of Penarth continue to help us because there are still people out there who need help."
